PCB suspends Umar Akmal under anti-corruption code

The 29 years-old Umar Akmal has been suspended by the PCB with immediate effect under Article 4.7.1 of its anti-corruption code (He escaped a ban for allegedly making crude remarks to a trainer during a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore).

Umar Akmal is a right-handed top-order batsman and occasional wicketkeeper, who played total 121 ODIs, 84 T20Is and 16 Tests and scored 3194 runs, 1690 , and 1003 runs respectively while he has total 154 dismissals in all formats.

Umar is the younger brother of former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal, who played 53 Tests, 58 T20s, 157 ODIs, and cousin of current captain Babar Azam.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board today suspended Umar Akmal with immediate effect…he cannot take part in any cricket-related activity pending the investigation being carried out by PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit,” the Board said in a statement.

Umar Akmal’s Pakistan Super League team Quetta Gladiators is allowed to apply for his replacement ahead of the 2020 edition beginning on Thursday.

  • Jan 2016 – Banned for a T20I against New Zealand for misconduct
  • May 2016 – Left out of the England tour along with Ahmed Shehzad on disciplinary grounds
  • May 2017 – Recalled from England ahead of the Champions Trophy for failing fitness Test
  • Sep 2017 – Banned for his outburst on former coach Mickey Arthur, his NOCs to play foreign leagues revoked
  • Jun 2018 – Served notice to explain his comments on a television show about spot-fixing requests
  • Apr 2019 – Fined for breaking team curfew in Dubai during series versus Australia
  • Feb 2020 – Reprimanded for inappropriate behaviour at fitness Test
