West Indies vs India: Young India‘s Preparation begins for the T20 World Cup

Back on the road following their unfulfilled World Cup campaign, India skipper Virat Kohli has shifted his focus to the forthcoming T20 World Cup, slated to be played in Australia next year. They will begin their preparations for the T20 mega event with a three-match series against the West Indies beginning on Saturday at Lauderhill, Florida.

The series will serve a chance for India’s youngsters to prove their talent and seal their places for upcoming Twenty20 World Cup, with the likes of Washington Sunder, Krunal Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Chahar, and Navdeep Saini while batting side Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandya will be played at the middle-order.

India’s top-order batting line-up has good strength with World Cup top scorer Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, and skipper Virat Kohli; a solid top-order batting line-up.

Looking to the other side, West Indies led by Carlos Brathwaite and have a senior player who has the capacity to turn the game in a flash. They were all-rounder Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, and EvinLewis. For the bowling department Sheldon Cottrell and Thomas, both of whom could cause India’s inconsistent middle-order some trouble in the right conditions.

Indian Skipper V Kohli said now my focus to the forthcoming T20 World Cup, slated to be played in Australia next year.

“We have 25-26 games before the T20 World Cup and we want to look at all the games to build a solid combination – conditions-based, obviously, because when you play in Australia, the combination will be different. And according to your team’s strength, and how a player is performing in different conditions, this is what we’re trying to figure out. It’s a very normal process in cricket at this level that whatever games you have, you use it to build towards that global tournament,” Kohli said

“All these are proven performers and we actually have a lot of belief in their ability. We know to give the ball to anyone at any stage of the game, they’ll do the job. Everyone is a professional here and they have come because of a lot of T20 experience and that is why these players are backed. If you look at the IPL you will have so many options, but you choose 15 which are the best. That’s what it was down to. And you expect them to do the job on the day,” he ended.
