India Will miss Rishab Pant in World Cup: Sourav Ganguly

India will miss Rishab Pant in World Cup: Sourav Ganguly

The former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly said “Indian will miss Rishab Pant in World cup. The 21-years old Rishab Pant is a dashing left-handed wicket-keeper batsman. He would be sorely missed during the 2019 World Cup starting on May 30 in England.

Pant was a notable omission from India’s World Cup squad as the national selectors picked an experienced Dinesh Karthik as the second choice wicket-keeper instead of the youngster.

“India will miss Rishab Pant in the World Cup. I don’t know in the whole place but he will be missed” said Sourav Ganguly at Eden Gardens.

Pant played for India Under-19 in the 2016 World Cup. In that tournament Pant made some massive records, he hit 75 runs in just 24 balls against Nepal and also smashed a century against Namibia. In Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy Pant smashed the second fastest hundred in the Twenty20 history. He scored a knock in just 32 balls against Himachal Pradesh.

Rishab made his international career for India in T20I format against England on February 2017. He played 15 international matches and scored 233 runs in 14 innings, 58 is his highest score. In One Day International format though he played only 5 matches and scored just 93 runs in 4 innings.

Pant played well this IPL season, he scored 488 runs in 16 matches at an average of 37.53 and with a strike rate of 162.66.

The Indian team selectors have explained that Dinesh Karthik was considered as the second choice Wicket Keeper considering his experience as if at all Dhoni needs a break cause of a niggle or injury the team needs someone who is proven and able wicket keeper as every single run counts in crucial matches.

There is a slight probability that R Pant could make it to the Indian team for the marquee tournament in case of injury to the first choice players.

Indian Cricket Team World Cup Squad: Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Shikhar Dhawan, MS Dhoni (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Vijay Shankar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Ravindra Jadeja
